Following the traditions of great Indian educational institutions, IIIT Bhubaneswar will be an autonomous university, a fully residential Institute, intense interaction with Industry, rigour in education and focus on complete development of human potential.
We have already proceeding on our path to becoming an Autonomous Unitary University. on 9th June 2010, the cabinet of the Government of Odisha approved passing of a bill to convert the Institute to an University. The process may take about 6 months before the assembly passes the Bill. There are several advantages in becoming a Unitary University: Pursue a Curriculum of high standards, Follow a rigorous process of education delivery and evaluation, innovate and experiment with pedagogy and many more.
IIIT Bhubaneswar is designed to be a fully residential campus. More than half the investment is going into the hostels. The students living together, working together, studying together adds tremendous value in building personality and maturity among the students. In the first year of our operation in Gothapatna Campus, we did not have the hostel ready. Still, temporary hostel was made ready and more than half the students are staying in the campus. The Hostel will be ready by end of July and all the students will be required to stay there.
Interaction with Industry is crucial for knowing what the customer (the Industry) finally wants. Fortunately for the IIITs, Industry takes a very keen interest in our activities. Leveraging this to build projects and programmes which are Industry focussed is a key differentiator for IIITs. We are no different and we have several programmes to engage with the Industry.
In a world full of distractions, the education process has lost rigour. We want to introduce the rigour into our education delivery process. The rigour will manifest in the class room, evaluation and administration. The benchmark needs to be raised for each succeeding batch of students. We have kept of student strength small to as to implement rigour effectively.
The unlocking of Human Potential is key objective of any Educational Institute. We are taking it a little more seriously. Creating an environment which fosters flowering of Human Talent, development of ethical standards and fellow feeling, develops the ability to see opportunities beyond the ordinary are some of our challenges.
